Going into Private Practice:
I was an event business owner in Italy, and while I enjoyed the entrepreneurial journey, things changed when I moved to the USA and after a few years started graduate studies to become a therapist. My primary goal was to support and provide therapy without worrying about office management, taxes, personal health insurance, marketing, etc. However, I became increasingly frustrated with the challenges of working in a hospital setting. This frustration prompted me to decide to go into private practice.
Having done so much on my own this year at work, the idea wasn't as intimidating. Recalling my experience as a business owner in Italy, I knew I needed a name. I sought feedback from co-workers and classmates, who advised against using my personal name for the business and suggested registering as an LLC for extra protection.
I started to think about a name that would resonate with me both as an Italian and an American. The phrase "Carpe Diem," commonly used in Italy to symbolize embracing the moment, deeply resonated with me. Thus, I chose "Carpe Diem Therapy and Wellness." I believe we need both therapy and wellness to balance and flourish as individuals and professional therapists.
Core Values:
Realizing I wasn't getting the professional support I needed, I believed my clients would receive more effective treatment in a different context. This "Carpe Diem" mindset influenced my approach to the blog and business, striving to make it truly client-centered. Identifying core values was crucial in shaping the direction and culture of Carpe Diem. We developed an acronym for our values: Compassion, Accountability, Resilience, Positivity, Excellence, Diversity, Integrity, Empowerment, and Mindfulness (C.A.R.P.E D.I.E.M.).
These values align with our mission, which is dedicated to empowering individuals to embrace their journey through curiosity and find balance, with a commitment to excellence and integrity. Our vision is to inspire courage for mental health and addiction healing and growth, fostering a community where individuals can achieve wellness and embrace a future with balance, curiosity, and hope.
Blog Goals:
The goal of this blog is to contribute to the mission of empowerment and fostering a supportive community, increasing awareness, and practicing the skills I often encourage clients to use. Through the blog and social media, I aim to create a safe community where we can grow together while navigating the challenges posed by insurance and state guidelines.
I envision this blog as a platform where I can share personal experiences, professional insights, and practical tips. It’s a space for open dialogue, where readers can comment, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations. I hope to build a supportive, interactive community that encourages growth.
